WHO is Oly
Photographer passionate about the sea, I also handcraft unique pieces from recycled sails, leather, and marine materials.
Sails reborn. Built to travel.
Before becoming bags or accessories, these fabrics were sails.
Dacron sails that have known wind, maneuvers, and life at sea. Their sailmaking seams and characteristic zigzag stitches—designed to withstand strong tension—still carry the marks of that first life.
In my workshop in the Namur region of Belgium, these sails are carefully cut and transformed by hand into durable bags and accessories. Each piece combines reclaimed sailcloth, leather, and marine fabrics, following an upcycling approach that gives existing materials a new purpose.
The pieces are assembled on industrial sewing machines over fifty years old, using simple and robust techniques inspired by traditional sailmaking. Whenever possible, materials are reclaimed — even the thread comes from leftover professional spools.
Every object is unique. The creases, marks, and seams tell the story of the boat, the wind, and time.
A sail does not end its life at sea.
It simply begins a new story.
